Rolling the Covid19 dice

The human brain is really good for some things, but not so much at others. For instance, the human brain is exceptionally good at pattern recognition as in the case of spotting a lion waiting to pounce. It's easy to see why: going back to our very distant ancestors, if they were slightly better at spotting danger hidden in the tall grass they would gain a selective advantage and be more likely to...

Flutter State Management Resources

I'm researching which state management solution I want to use with Flutter. There are a slew of options since Flutter wisely chose to be agnostic regarding state management. From what I've discovered there isn't really a best solution; there's just the solution that each individual likes best. In the past, using Apache Flex, I created my own state management system, which I've also ported over to...

Spring in Asheville

Mid April and the plants and trees are really getting their spring on. The dogwood trees here at the house are in full bloom and look healthier than they have in years. The oak trees are just starting to leaf out. In another 7-10 days we should have a pretty good canopy.

Flutter Vignette Showcase by GSkinner

Among the first names I heard when I was a fledgling Flash developer was Grant Skinner. Back in the day he did mind bending things with Flash. So I wasn't surprised this morning to see his name pop up in relation to Flutter and again, taking the platform to its limits to create beautiful designs. You can see a short video presentation of the designs at flutter.gskinner.com Download the Android...

Washing hands. CHECK. What else can I do to protect myself from COVID-19.

I'd like to reach through the monitor and slap the next TV personality or doctor who reminds us to wash our hands. Yes, we get it. Now what else? I'm going to lay out some very simple and obvious tips here in TL:DR format and then go back over the details below that with links to sources. If you don't want to get infected: be where the virus isn't. Don't think you can go out in public and be...
