Actionscript 2 code hinting in CS3

January 13th, 2008 . by polyGeek

This sounds pretty stupid but I used the Flash Actionscript editor for months wondering why the code hinting was always for AS3 even though I was writing AS2 code.

In the upper-left corner of the editor is a dropdown where you can select the type of code hinting you want. All better now.

And please, don’t give me any grief for using the Flash Actionscript editor. It works fine for the rare occasion I write AS2 code. I use Eclipse for all my AS3 work.

It doesn’t automatically change for you? That’s a bug. When I create a new FLA it starts out as AS3. If I change the publish settings to AS2 the editor window changes as well.

Do you have the dropdown displayed all the time? Mine is always displayed. Perhaps there’s an issue if it’s not currently displayed?

Do you start out a new FLA as AS3 or AS2?

@Derek, When I would create a new FLA for AS3 the dropDown help doesn’t change to AS3 code hinting. It stays at AS2. It originally defaulted to AS3 code hinting thus the frustration. I don’t write much AS3 code with the Flash authoring tool so it isn’t really a problem. I agree, it should switch automatically.
