CS3ucks to be a European web developer
April 19th, 2007 . by polyGeekFlashmagazine is reporting about the huge price differences for the CS3 Web Premium edition in countries outside of North America. In today’s world how is this going to fly? What’s to prevent someone from buying in the US and selling them on eBay to people in Europe? (I’ve never used eBay so I don’t have a clue how stuff like that works.)
Flashmagazine suggests that Europeans fly over here and buy there own copies. They get a vacation and save a few dollars. With that in mind I’d love a free trip to Italy. If it’s not illegal I’ll bring you a few copies. You pay for airfare and the US cost for the suite and we’ll call it even. :-) I think I’m joking here but then again, what the hell?

I am absolutely disgusted with the UK CS3 prices. Thankfully I have somebody in the US I can buy through.
There is no excuse for these price differences. Set a USD global price and then convert the price at favourable rates, and add local sales taxes.
At this point in time I will not be purchasing any Adobe products unless I absolutely have to. This sentiment seems to be the same across a number of colleagues as well.
You have to wonder what Adobe are up to.
@Adam, Dude, I feel for you. I’m curious what Adobe thinks is going to happen here. I’ll bite the bullet and buy my copy but I’ll bet piracy is going to skyrocket.
Adobe arent the only ones, it’s fast becoming a trend amongst the big software houses (Microsoft, Adobe, IBM, Novell) to have radically different pricing for both sides of the Atlantic. Windows Vista is almost 50% more expensive to Europeans with often straight conversions of the price, rather than a currency conversion…
it seems to make absolutely no sense given there’s no differences between the products.
“stuff costs more in Europe, deal with it” is not exactly a nice excuse to garnish the revenue..
And they wonder why piracy outside North America is on the rise despite software improvements…
@Nix, Yeah, I’ll bet it’s enough to make you want to spit. I just wonder why everyone in the EU isn’t just going through “a friend” to buy it for them. Actually, I think all you would need is an American credit card so that it would look like you were buying it from the states. If you download the trial and upgrade then all you get is a serial number in an email.
