Best speaker award for 360Flex from polyGeek
March 10th, 2007 . by polyGeekIt’s hard to single out one speaker above all the rest because there were many that were top notch. Plus, I obviously didn’t see everyone speak. That being said here’s my award.
If you have a world of respect for Ted Patrick then you don’t have enough. The man knows his stuff and he presents himself professionally at all times. His presentations are well thought out and polished. My guess is that he’s probably done more presenting than all the other speakers at 360Flex combined, or close to it. Plus, he got grilled during the AS3 Performance Tuning session and never missed a beat. He answered nearly every question put to him but when he didn’t know the answer he didn’t beat around the bush. He just said, “I’m not sure” and offered a suggestion on how to find the answer. You have to respect that.
Then there’s Ely Greenfield. Apart from landing the better than a Lego Vagina award he was a superb speaker. His presentation on Making Components was full of very technical information but he distilled it down into an understandable form. He knew his material and how long it would take to get through his presentation. I’m sure everyone left with a much deeper understanding for making their own components.
So, I’m going to have to give them co-awards for their excellent work. Next conference the first round is on me guys.
Honorable mention goes to Deepa Subramaniam for her Flex Framework session. Very nice work. She’s young and I think in the next few years she’ll really be challenging Ted and Ely for best speaker status. So keep your eyes on this up-and-comer. :-)

I didn’t see Ted present, but Ely and Deepa were both excellent. Good call polyGeek.
I’d also like to throw a plug in for Ben Forta’s presentation skills. He’s obviously very good at what he does, and knows it like no other, but he’s also very good at presenting it in an understandable form, answering questions from all directions, and he added some good humor also.
Lastly, I didn’t sit in, but I’ve heard great things from Tom Ortega’s Flex 101 track. Many beginning Flexers said they learned a lot from him.
Props to all the presenters and organizers, it was a great conference!
@Ryan, I too heard good things about Forta. Thanks for giving props to Tom Ortega. I didn’t even know he was doing the 101 track.
Good luck on your new blog. I look forward to seeing it grow.
Yeah, I don’t think Tom had intended on doing the 101, but Ted went a bit too fast for the group on the first day, so they did some shifting around.
Worked out well for all involved.
Thanks for the good luck. Brand new to the blog world, lots to learn, but eager to do so.
