Reasons I’m going to 360|Flex – besides to give my presentation
I’d still be excited to attend 360|Flex – San Jose, March 8-10 – even if I weren’t presenting. That’s because there are some knockout sessions lined up that I can’t wait to see. Here’s my list of the sessions I’m most looking forward to.
Sunday: Hands on
I can’t wait for the all day training hands on training on Sunday before the conference kicks into high gear. Justin McClean is going to be presenting on Flex and Hardware. That should be some fun stuff.
Monday: Session #1 at 10:00am
I’ll probably land in Michael Labriola’s Eternal Sunshine of the Component Developers Mind because building components is about the most common thing I do and I’ll never be good enough at it. However I’d like to learn a little more about Flash Analytics Throwdown – Google vs Omniture from Chase Brammer. I use Google Analytics for RunPee.com and a few other apps and I love it. However I’d like to know if Omniture offers something that might convince me to switch.
Monday: Session #2 at 1:00pm
No doubt you’ll see me in Ryan Stewart’s Creating Collaborative Apps with PHP and LiveCycle Collaboration Services. I have a project coming up that could use some LiveCycle goodness. This should be a great start to getting me going.
Session #3 at 2:30pm
Are you kidding me? Kevin Hoyt is doing Flex + Phidgets = Beer at the same time Jesse Warden is talking about RobotLegs on Top of Gaia Flash Framework? Noooooooooo! Frak me sideways! Not that I EVER plan on using RobotLegs on top of anything but damn I want to see Jesse rock the house. Jesse could be talking about selling insurance and I’d want to be there. But oh well. I guess I’ll have to miss it because Hoyt is a great presenter as well and he’s talking about fun stuff with hardware. I guess I’ll just have to soak up all the Jesse I can at the parties and at least we have weekly episodes of JXLTV now.
Monday: Panel discussion at 4:00pm
This should be fun considering the Apple controversy and all the Flash Player news recently.
Tuesday: Panel Discussion at 8:30am
RIA Design Principles panel . . . I already have very ridged design principle that I adhear to. It’s called making it up as I go along. yeah, I might be sleeping in on Tuesday. :)
Tuesday: Session #1 at 10am
Toss-up between Deepa’s What’s New in Flex 4 that’s NOT Spark! and Aaron Pedersen’s Flex 4 Component LifeCycle Best Practices. It sucks that there are two Flex 4 oriented sessions at the same time. I’d say that’s a scheduling FAIL!
Tuesday: Session #2 at 1:00 pm
There’s more component love from Jeffry Houser on The Flex Component Architecture Showdown: Halo and Spark Side by Side. But I’m probably going to miss that because Dave Hassoun and Jun Heider are talking about Adobe Stratus and Flash Player 10 P2P. I think I might want to be in on that. Sorry Jeffry. :)
Tuesday: Session #3 at 2:30 pm
No conflicts for this time block. I’m all over How to talk “Satellite” – Throwing GPS data at Flex by Randy Troppman and Andrew Westberg. I have a big GPS project coming up soon and this is stuff I need to know.
Tuesday: Panel Discussion
Let the parties begin. I’m pretty sure I don’t need to know anything about how to speak to executives. Executives need to know how to talk to me. :)
Wednesday: Session #1 at 10:00am
Well, I’m speaking during this time slot so it’s a given where I’ll be. But I wish I could catch Paul Robertson talking about Building AIR applications for mobile devices. At least I’ll be able to grab his slides later.
Wednesday: Session #2 at 1:00pm
Not to miss: Nate Beck’s Flexible Games…game development with stuff you already know. I got to hang with Nate down in Phoenix at FlashCamp a few weeks back. Great guy. I can’t wait to see his presentation.
Wednesday: Session #3 at 2:30pm
Great, two more sessions that I really want to see that run at the same time. Tom Gonzalez is talking about his Axiis 1.0 release. Axiis is WAY COOL. I want to play with it. But, my HP TouchSmart laptop will be here next week and I could use all the multi-touch info I can get which is what Shashank Tiwari is talking about with Simple Expressions at Play ( Multi Touch ). Might be a coin flip between these two.
Wednesday: Session #4 at 4:00pm
I’d like attend Huyen Tue Dao’s session Greenthreading in Flex because I’d like to know more, okay anything, about greenthreading but I’m guessing that might be a little over my head. I also need to know more about Flex Typography using the Text Layout Framework so I’ll probably me in Matt Guest’s session.
What sessions do you have on your can’t be missed list?
If something here has proved valuable to you then feel free to drop a couple of bucks in the tip-jar.
